The first Indian Music Party in Singapore was founded in 1948 by Mr Edmund Appau together with Mr V. Sinniah (the uncle of V.Ramachandran - a singer/percussionist who later became a member of SIMP)
It was known as the New Indian Amateur Orchestra.They were all amateur musicians(thus the name)and entertained at weddings and other functions.
Later with more talented and trained musicians, Mr. Edmund Appau (seated front row, 1st from left) formed the Singapore Indian Music Party also popularly known as SIMP.
